Dog napping is now the biggest growing crime in the UK. Until there is a national register, the number of dogs stolen cannot be confirmed.

All Vets should have an information page in their practices.

responsible pet owners should:

Have your pet micro-chipped (ISO standard)
Update your micro-chip details when you move home
Get your pets microchip checked annually as they move and can stop working!
Have your dog spayed / neutered then you remove motive of them being stolen for breeding purposes
Make sure their collar has a tag with your phone number and postcode

THINGS TO DO TO LESSEN THE CHANCE OF YOUR DOG BEING STOLEN

Never leave your pet tied up outside a shop
Never leave your dog in a car - Car windows are now being smashed
Never leave your advertised "puppies for sale" alone with any buyers
Make sure your garden is secure with gates locked and a bell attached
Only let your dog off the lead in the park if you can see him/her
Never leave your house with the dog in the garden unattended
Make sure you have an up to date picture of your dog

Postman/milkman
Petlog if your dog is micro-chipped
Local Press and Radio
